Some wedding days just have a lovely atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
Hayley and Luke’s wedding at Sandburn Hall was one of those days. Relaxed, full of laughter, and surrounded by family and friends who clearly meant the world to them. From the quiet excitement of the morning preparations right through to the fireworks at night, it was a day that felt genuinely joyful to be part of.
Sandburn Hall is a venue I always enjoy filming at. Sitting just outside York and surrounded by lakes and countryside, it has this calm, open feel that works beautifully for weddings. Everything flows naturally from one part of the day to the next, which always helps couples stay present and enjoy what is happening around them.
And on this particular day, the Yorkshire weather even played along.
Morning Preparations
The day began with Hayley getting ready alongside her bridesmaids, and the atmosphere in the room was exactly what you hope for on a wedding morning, relaxed, happy and full of anticipation.
Music was playing in the background, Tea/coffee and nibbles were at the ready, and there was plenty of laughter as everyone helped each other get ready.
Jessica Ley created a beautifully natural makeup look for Hayley. She positioning Hayley and the girls in the best light to get the most from the natural light and look great on camera.
Not far away, Luke and his groomsmen were getting ready too. There were a few drinks, plenty of joking around, and that familiar mix of nerves and excitement that tends to appear before the ceremony begins.
The Ceremony at Sandburn Hall
Sandburn Hall’s Grand Hall is a wonderful space for wedding ceremonies.
The oak beams, large windows and views across the golf course give the room a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels special without being overly formal.
Guests slowly took their seats while live music from Georgie Harrison filled the room, creating a beautiful atmosphere before the ceremony began.
Then came that moment everyone waits for, Hayley walking down the aisle.
Luke’s reaction said everything.
Their ceremony was filled with smiles, laughter and a few emotional moments too. The kind of ceremony where you can really feel how much the couple means to the people sitting in the room around them.
Those are always the most meaningful ceremonies to film.

A Reception Space That Mirrors the Grand Hall
After the ceremony, guests moved through to the adjoining reception room for the
drinks reception and wedding breakfast.
One of the things I really like about Sandburn Hall is how well these spaces connect. The reception room sits right beside the Grand Hall and mirrors it beautifully in style, with the same warm wood tones and open feel. It creates a really seamless flow between the different parts of the day, which helps everything feel relaxed rather than rushed.
Guests gathered together for drinks and conversation while Georgie Harrison continued to entertain with her fantastic singing. Hayley and Luke spent time catching up with family and friends. It is always a lovely part of the day, that moment where everything slows slightly and the celebrations begin to settle into a rhythm. It was also great to be working alongside photographer Emily Green. She has a really calm way of guiding people that never feels forced, and something I particularly appreciate is how she encourages groups to interact with each other rather than simply looking straight at the camera. Those little moments of conversation and laughter make such a difference on video, creating footage that feels natural and timeless rather than overly posed.
Speeches in the Grand Hall
The wedding breakfast took place back inside the Grand Hall, which had been beautifully styled by Shindig Event Styling.
Once everyone was seated, the speeches began and they were brilliant.
Luke’s speech had the whole room laughing one minute and becoming emotional the next, which is exactly what great wedding speeches tend to do. There were stories about how they met, memories shared by friends, and plenty of good natured humour along the way.
As a videographer, speeches are always one of the most meaningful parts of the day to capture. They reveal so much about the couple and the people around them, and they often become some of the most important memories couples return to when watching their film in the years ahead.

The Evening Celebrations
As the evening guests arrived, the atmosphere quickly shifted into full celebration mode.
Live band Whiskey Wood kicked off the party and within minutes the dance floor was full. There’s always that point during a wedding where everyone suddenly decides it’s time to celebrate properly, and this was definitely that moment.
Later in the evening Ardent Fireworks put on a fantastic display outside the venue. Guests gathered outside while the sky lit up above Sandburn Hall, creating a really memorable end to the day.
A perfect way to close the celebrations.
