Why Sharing Wedding Day Details with Your Videographer is Crucial

Planning a wedding is like throwing the party of the century. You've got the dress, the flowers, the cake, and that one relative who insists on bringing their untrained dog! But in all the chaos, there’s one thing you might forget: giving your videographer the inside scoop on your big day. Here’s why sharing details is super important, and some examples of what details could be if you are stuck.

VIPs: Those loved ones and friends you want to see, just that little bit more! 😎

Every wedding has VIPs—your parents, best friends, and that uncle who flew in from Aus (lucky fella). Letting me know who these folks are ensures I capture their best angles (and not just the backs of their heads). Names are especially helpful. Without them, I cant ask people on the day and tie them together.

A BIG Surprise! But Not for Us 😜

Who doesn't love big surprises. I know I do. But to catch that tear-jerking speech from a loved one who couldn't make it so her daughter is reading it, or your cousin’s surprise breakdancing performance, I need to know it’s coming. If you don’t tell me, you might end up with footage just after an epic moment. And those speeches? They need to be mic’ed properly. That crisp audio you hear in my films? It’s not magic—it’s pro audio gear hidden so stealthily, even James Bond would be impressed.

Singing Waiters: The Ultimate Surprise 🎙️

Singing waiters are the life of a party—until they start belting out show tunes while we’re on our coffee/dinner break. These surprise performances often happen between courses, just when we’re having a quick bite. If I don’t know about them, I won’t be there to capture their glorious rendition of "Nessun Dorma." So, if your family is planning to hire these musical magicians, make sure they let me know. Trust me, you don’t want to miss the footage of your Aunt Sally’s jaw hitting the floor when the waiter trips over to erupt in song moments later.

The Nitty-Gritty Details

Here’s what I need to make your wedding video rock:

- Important People: Grandma, your best friend from nursery, and yes, even your uncle who tells inappropriate jokes 😝

- Readings and Speeches: Who’s talking, when, and if they’re likely to cry. I need to be ready!

- Entertainment: If you’ve got a string quartet, fire dancers, or a flash mob, let me know. I don’t want to miss it while refilling my coffee.

- Ceremony Features: Unique traditions, secret handshakes, or the moment your dog brings the rings. I want to catch it all.

- Reception Highlights: The first dance, cake cutting, and your aunt attempting the worm on the dance floor. (We live for those moments.)

Real-Life Examples

Here’s how sharing details can help me capture those priceless moments:

- The Epic Entrance: If you’re planning to arrive via helicopter, let us know so we don’t miss it while setting up a tripod inside.

- Family Traditions: If your dad plans to serenade you with a guitar solo, we’ll make sure to capture every strum and emotional tear.

- Surprise Guests: If your college roommate is flying in from Australia as a surprise, we’ll be ready to film the tearful reunion.

- Hidden Talents: If one of the groomsmen plans to juggle flaming swords, we’ll set up the slow-motion camera .

Encourage Surprises, But Let Us In on Them

Surprises make your wedding day unforgettable. Just let someone in the know, like a family member or your wedding planner, discreetly inform me. That way, I'm in the loop without spoiling the fun for you.

Avoiding Post-Wedding Regrets

One of the most heartbreaking requests I get is for more footage of a specific person after the wedding. Sometimes, guests are camera-shy or move around a lot, making it tough to capture them. By giving me the heads-up about key individuals, I can make a concerted effort to feature them. While I can’t guarantee every guest will appear in the footage, I can certainly try my best—sometimes even hiding in the bushes to get that perfect candid shot!

Final Thoughts

Your wedding day is a sequence of special moments and beloved people. Sharing the details with me ensures these memories are captured beautifully, allowing you to relive them for years to come. Don’t hesitate to provide me with all the information you can—after all, I want to make your wedding film as magical as the day itself.
